Good afternoon and Happy Friday! I hope you all have had a great week so far and have something fun in store for the upcoming weekend. I will be getting together with two of my best friends this evening as long as the lake effect snow holds off and doesn’t throw a major wrench in our plans. Living in Central and Western NY certainly gives you quite the love/hate relationship with snow. 🙂 Take this Flashback Friday photo for example:
This picture was actually taken on the day of my birthday last year! Just looking at it is triggering memories of wet socks, unplowed driveways and my appreciation for heated blankets. Burr!
On deck for this weekend I also have my first day of training at Lululemon on Sunday and am SO looking forward to getting started! As refreshing as it has been to have a break from the 8-5 office life, I am getting pretty antsy over here and am itching to get back into some sort of a routine. I think this will be the perfect fit for the time being!
Being a silent blog reader for years, I have always enjoyed reading some of my favorite blogger’s posts on their weekly roundups of Friday Favorites.
For those that may not be familiar, Friday Favorites is a fun way to share whatever you have been loving over the past week. It can range from anything like a great recipe you tried, a new book you can’t put down, to even a meme that cracked you up. The options are endless and anything goes!
Without further adieu, I would like to welcome you to my first post of my very own Friday Favorites! I would love to hear something that you have been loving this week in the comments below!
Christmas Time in Our Apartment
I am so thankful that my roommate is just as into holiday decorating as I am! We have lived in our 2 bedroom apartment in the Park Ave neighborhood of Rochester since August of last year and have succeed at making it a homey and comfortable place to call home.
When the holidays hit, nothing is better than relaxing in our apartment filled with the soft glow of holiday lights and the smell of a fresh cut Christmas tree.
This week we had a chance to go on a search for the perfect tree and found a winner.
We spent last night drinking wine, jamming to Christmas ‘tunes, and turning our apartment into a winter wonderland.
Group Exercise Classes
Having some extra time in my schedule, I have been able to experiment with different group exercise classes offered at my gym. Last week, I tried out HIIT & Ripped, which was a 50 minute class made up of high intensity intervals combined with strength training and core work. It was an amazing full-body workout and has inspired me to incorporate more hard intervals into my weekly routine!
I also had the chance to try out a few Body Power classes. This one is right up my alley! It is a barbell focused program that aims to strengthen all your major muscles through basic movements such as squats, deadlifts, rows, presses, and more.
Can’t. Stop. Watching.
Seriously, this show has my heart! It’s quirky, it’s witty, it’s romantic – basically everything that I have been looking for since finishing How I Met Your Mother. Zooey Deschanel is awkwardly charming and hilarious as she plays Jess Day, the main character who is rebounding from a breakup and moves into a loft apartment with three single guys.
For anyone looking for a lighthearted romantic television comedy, I would recommend giving New Girl a go!
Now I may be jumping the gun on this one since it’s not quite 2017, but I have been loving my Passion Planner and all of the goal-setting and organizational strategies it provides! Since they tend to sell out pretty quickly, I wanted to be sure to share with you today in case you wanted to get your hands on one or order as a gift for someone this holiday season. 🙂
I can already tell how much this planner is going to help keep me in check. The website breaks down the weekly layouts and here are some of the benefits inside:
- Weekly and daily focuses to keep your attention on the most important tasks.
- Weekly plans from Sunday – Saturday, 6 AM – 11 PM. Every day, broken down into 30 minute sections to help you manage your time.
- “Good Things That Happened” section to keep you focused on the positive.
- A motivational quote and challenge to inspire positive action.
- Personal and work to-do lists organized by priority to encourage work-life balance, because very often we forget to take care of ourselves.
- “Space of Infinite Possibility” where you can take notes, draw, create, write, brainstorm or customize to your needs.
I ordered the 2017 Dated Classic Birds & Bees Planner in Black.
I picked up a set of these Circle Resistance Bands from Target for $12.49 way back in April and have finally started to incorporate them into my workouts. The set came with three bands: one light, medium and heavy.
Unlike free weights, resistance bands provide you with constant tension on the muscle being worked, which is something that dumbbells or barbells on their own cannot do.
I personally love using them for kickbacks, good mornings, and squats for a little extra resistance and burn! They are perfect to store in your gym bag and pull out when looking for an extra challenge to mix in to your workout.
