Are you ready to sweat? I was in the mood for something a little different than my traditional leg day routine and came up with this super set style workout that will get your heart rate up and your legs feelin’ the burn in no time. To follow this routine, you will want to begin in Block One and complete one set of each exercise. Rest for about one minute, then repeat the paired exercises three more times before moving onto Block Two.
Before jumping into the workout, I began with a walk on the treadmill: 10 minutes at 3.5 mph and a level 10 incline. Any sort of cardio or dynamic warm up would work to get your muscles ready to go!
I’ve included some links above to BodyBuilding.com that show demos of the different exercises. (BodyBuilding.com’s workout archive is my bible! I still turn to it whenever I need a visual example or am looking for new exercises to spice up my routines.)
Earlier in my workout, I had asked Kevin if he could coach me through the trap bar deadlift – an exercise that I had been itching to incorporate into my leg day but was too intimidated to try! For those that aren’t familiar with the trap bar, it looks a little somethin’ like this:
Kevin had me practice with just the bar to get my form down, then slide a 25 lb. plate on either side and I finished up my workout with 4 sets of 6 reps. I could instantly feel the burn in my upper quads and I’m reallllly feeling the effects today!
And there ya have it! If you’re looking for a switch-up from your usual leg day or are limited on time, I encourage you to take a stab at this workout.
Dinner time here – and we’ve got cheesey raviolis on deck! Talk to you soon! 🙂
